Understanding the risks of taking acetaminophen during Pregnancy

There is an active lawsuit against Johnson and Johnson claiming that acetaminophen-containing products like Tylenol causes autism and ADHD in children when mothers take it during pregnancy.

If you took Tylenol or a generic version (acetaminophen) during pregnancy and your child was later diagnosed with ADHD or Autism, you deserve to be compensated.

In late 2021, a scientific journal article published in Nature Reviews Endocrinology brought attention to mounting evidence that the active ingredient in Tylenol, called paracetamol or acetaminophen, may cause developmental issues in children when mothers take the drug during pregnancy.

Over 65% of America’s pregnant women use Tylenol or other acetaminophen brands, like CVS, Walmart, and Target, at the recommendation of their doctors. Given its widespread use, the negative impact of this drug may be one of the largest in US history, impacting hundreds of thousands of families and causing a lot of suffering.

Who qualifies for potential compensation?

If you took Tylenol or a generic brand of acetaminophen while pregnant and your child was later diagnosed with autism or ADHD, you might qualify to join the class action against J&J.

Additional factors that impact your case are the doses you were taking and how frequently you took the medication. Mothers who took acetaminophen on 20 or more days in their second or third trimester are at greater risk. Notably, the drug doesn’t need to have been taken 20 days in a row, just 20 days total over the course of the second and third trimesters.

Generic brands of acetaminophen include, but are not limited to:

  • CVS
  • RiteAid
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Amazon Essentials

It doesn’t matter whether you took Tylenol specifically or one of the store brands of acetaminophen like those listed above. They are the same compound and can have the same effect on your system.

Schedule a free consultation if you took Tylenol or generic acetaminophen during pregnancy and your child was then diagnosed with autism or ADHD.
